Friday 16th February 2018 at The Watersedge Restaurant, Mercury Marina Hamble
We are very pleased to tell you that we have now had our speaker for Friday February 16 confirmed.
He is Julian Mustoe who will be speaking on 'The Voyage of the Harrier' - a circumnavigation with a purpose: to recreate the historic voyage of HMS Beagle which, in the late 1830s, circumnavigated under the command of Robert Fitzroy with Charles Darwin aboard as ship’s naturalist.
Darwin’s book, Voyage of the Beagle was published in 1839 and has never been out of print. It was the turning point in Darwin’s life and led him to publish his Origin of Species in 1859. His theory of evolution is the basis of all modern biology. For Julian, the voyage of the Harrier following in the Beagle’s track was his retirement project. On his way he survived stormy weather, a dismasting, shipwreck and attack by smugglers. Come and hear the tale. The booking form and menu will be circulated shortly, but we suggest you note the date now.
We look forward to seeing you.
