Worse Things Happen at Sea; Jake Kavanagh; Adlard Coles Nautical, 2005; £6.99; CA 16517
This is not a book to be read straight through in one go. Filled with wit and whimsy it more to be savoured in small doses, maybe taken from the bunk-side shelf for a few pages before dropping off to sleep. Many amusing anecdotes, seldom even filling a page will gently amuse even the dourest soul. Tales of error, woe and human frailty in a life at sea are frequently redolent of our own experience or close to it. There are frequent neatly drawn cartoons to illustrate or to tell another story. £6.99 is not too much to raise a smile or two. - BJFS
