Portugal Cruising Guide; Luis Falco & Christine Radburn; R F Enterprises, 2004; CA URN 16644
The name says it all, this is a cruising guide that provides more peripheral information about marinas and the hinterland than a pilot but less navigational information. The book is an easy , if slightly lightweight, read with plenty of atmospheric photographs but useful all the same provided that it is complemented with a pilot
In the navigation sections, the authors cover approaches to and facilities at all of the marinas and a fair few of the anchorages along the Portuguese coast. The data includes GPS waypoints, full colour chartlets and marina plans together with a comprehensive list of the facilities offered at each location.
Other sections include information on the geo-economics of the country, gastronomy and wine regions. The text on each page is written in English, French and Portuguese which whilst a little difficult to read is useful entrée to the normally impenetrable Portuguese language. A multi-lingual dictionary covering nautical and tourist themes is also provided. The coffee table format is a little unusual but the book would be useful for anyone contemplating a summer’s cruise of this fascinating coast. - CRE
