Narrowboat Planning; Graham Booth; Waterways World, 2005; £14.99; CA 16586

As the title suggests, it provides ideas and technical solutions for the design of accommodation in a canal boat and will help you to plan a new boat or improve arrangements in an existing one. The choice and regional limits of overall length are discussed at length.

Part 1 considers the individual areas in a narrowboat - saloon, galley, dinette, bathroom, bedroom, engine room and the boatman's cabin - and the pros and cons of several options.

Part 2 features eighteen case studies with layout plans and colour photographs.

Useful addresses of builders of narrowboats are given in the appendices.

The benefits of the author’s architectural background and long experience in reviewing and photographing boats are effectively communicated to the reader in this superbly illustrated publication. – jfp
