Sea to Source, a DVD TV documentary; Nick Clark; 2002; CA 16617

A TV documentary along the River Thames as reporter Nick Clark hitches a ride on over 30 different boats as he travels 215 miles against the flow from the North Sea to the source in Gloucestershire. Thumbing a lift and camping on the way he meets a myriad of local characters, discovers a variety of wildlife and unearths an amazing wealth of history. Spending nearly three weeks on the water, the journey gives a fresh and unique insight into the people and character of one of the greatest rivers in the world. A beautiful production, but a bit contrived, and not for the sailors amongst, but ideal for those with a motor boat who could make the same trip. It’s a shame that DVDs are often just a VHS tape on a digital format, because they can offer so much more by adding extra textual information, and the ability to jump to many different chapter headings. For simplicity this only has 4 chapter headings – but you can still use the fast forward button.  – MB
