Roving Commissions 40 (with Index 1988-1999; Christopher Corbet (ed.); Royal Cruising Club, 1999; CA 16537.

I was surprised to be sent the RCC's Journal for the season 1999, but this may reflect the fact there are usually back copies available at reduced prices. As a general principle, I would highly recommend anyone to dip in to any edition; the cruise accounts and other essays are a great resource for voyage planning, or visiting new cruising grounds. Membership of RCC may be elitist compared with the CA, but a surprising range of vessels and locations is represented in Roving Commissions. Author styles are equally as varied. The maps, drawings and photographs are excellent. I would single out the Lytle's "Oriole round Ireland" as a model of a cruise log. They combine pilotage and passage information with a nicely balanced individuality, conveying the flavour of the voyage while omitting the too personal detail. - JT
