Twenty four pages of closely written navigational information for continental waterways. This includes sound signals, lights and marks on vessels, navigation marks, and rule for meeting, crossing and overtaking vessels. It is well illustrated with coloured diagrams, but in small print for an emergency situation on a dark night! My conclusion is that the navigation of pleasure vessels, especially at night, is not for the tender-hearted or inexperienced.

In Holland and Germany at least, VHF is almost essential. Don’t cross the Channel without studying these Regulations beforehand, and keep a copy in the wheelhouse. JFP
