Killigrew’s Run; Jonathan Lunn; Headline

This
latest saga in the career of Commander Christopher Killigrew RN gives a
fascinating insight into aspects of the early stages of the Crimean War, which
were played out by naval forces in the Gulf of Finland and which provides the
backdrop to the story. It focuses on the problems caused by a party of
influential war tourists in their own yacht and our hero’s gallant efforts to
extract a certain Viscount, a crony of the Prime Minister ( nothing changes!!)
and his family, including of course, his resourceful and attractive daughter,
from Russian grasp.
A
rattling good yarn and a most enjoyable read, but one which would appear to have
more in common with a 19th century Commander Bond, than with Captain
Hornblower. -
