Clawhammer; Sam Llewellyn; House of Stratus, 2000; 0-7551-0007-7; £6.99 CA 15846
While Clawhammer is a good fast moving and complex yarn concerning fraud, intrigue and double dealing against a background of aid supplies to the Third World, it contains very little to interest the sailing enthusiast.
A transatlantic is dismissed in under three pages and a short handed race in classic gaff-rigged half deckers in another five.
The author by his choice of vocabulary and turn of phrase has obviously intended this book for an American Market, but it none the less makes a good read, but one which regrettably will disappoint those expecting a significant sailing content. - RWF
