The story of a GB single-handed circumnavigation, mostly under sail, is sadly marred by an unfortunate prose style. When I read the blurb which promised I would both laugh and cry, I felt no better. The author has the inimitable habit of dramatising: "the infamous Start Point" is but one example. This style goes hand in hand with errors in spelling and is a far cry from other volumes of my acquaintance. Eric Hiscock was never like this . I found nothing to stir my emotions. -JB
