Yachtsman's Guide to Spain & Portugal; by Richard Edmund Ashton Ed.; Publinautic, 10th ed. 1999; ISBN 84-923577-1-1; £20.00 inc. p &p; CA 15410

This two language guide book follows a now well-trodden and familiar path. It appears to be thoroughly up-dated and, for example, includes all changes to navigation lights up to 1 July 1998. One change this year is to move from the more conventional continuous page numbering to numbering by section - a change which I found less straightforward and probably irritating on board, though experience will hopefully reduce this.

The same style of simplified and clear harbour plans used in earlier editions is repeated, and these and the maps of the coastal regions are accompanied with a good range of written information. The guide takes care to draw attention to the need for good large scale charts as many areas are subject to moving sand banks. A separate section includes an assessment of the impact of Spanish law on the yachtsman. There is a considerable range of advertising material as well as a useful yellow pages section for goods and services.
