South West Section Introduction

Longships Lighthouse
Welcome to the South West Section

Welcome to the Cruising Association South West Section. This Section covers the Cornwall /Devon peninsula from Bolt Head in the South, West to the archipelago of the Isles of Scilly and North to Hartland Point. As far as cruising goes, the area offers many unspoilt estuaries, tranquil anchorages as well as challenging passages.

We have many of the best loved and iconic harbours, stunning coastal scenery all enriched by the area’s history, myth and legend. It’s no wonder artists and writers glean such inspiration from the 400 miles of coastline!

Our harbours are also the beginning (or return) for many extended worldwide passages, and host races such as the famous ‘Azores and Back’ and the finish of the ‘Fastnet’.

A good number of our membership live in the area, but many more keep their boats in the South West and/or regularly cruise our rather special waters.

The South West Area

South West Section Area

The South West Section includes the west of Devon from a line between Kingsbridge in the south to Oakhampton on Dartmoor and on to Bideford in the north and all of Cornwall and of course the Iles of Scilly.

Where we Meet

Our winter events programme is based in various locations across the area, either during the daytime or evening. This is to enable our members to meet each other, enjoy a meal, a talk, the companionship of other cruising sailors and to share knowledge and experiences.

The meetings are arranged well in advance and details are on the CA website, in the Southwest Section Newsletter and reminders are sent to members by email about three weeks before each talk.

Forthcoming Events

Saturday January 21st 2017 - Hidden Gems from a Year Off in the Med - the Kearsley Family
