Finding what you want using Search
MyCA has a builtin Search capability which you can use if you wish to fnd something on the site without having to click down through the pages. It's a bit like Google, however it's not quite so clever, so you have to work a little bit harder to find what you want.
Starting a Search
There are several ways to get to the Search screen. Every page has two ways directly from the top banner. Clicking on either 'Search' on the 'ribbon' menu, or the top right of any page will take you there.
Alternatively, you can enter a search term (for 'content' only) directly from the box on the left side of the Home page.

How to get the best out of Search
Unlike Google, you have to tell MyCA what it is you would like to Search first. Along the top of the Search Page are tabs with different categories:
- Content. This searches all the normal website pages
- Attachments. This searches all the pdfs that appear as attachments to our web pages
- CA Members. This searches for Yearbook details on a CA Member.
- Library Catalogue. This allows you to search for a book in the CA Library.

Searching Content
'Content' here means anything on a MyCA web page, but not including anything which is contained in any 'attached' pdf. Enter one or more words you want to search for and click on the 'Search MyCA' button. The system will return a list of web pages that match your search criteria in the order it thinks are most appropriate. Each entry shows a snippet of the page. You can go directly to that page by clicking on its title.

Searching Attachments
Much of the content on our site is burried in pdfs attached to web pages. Clicking on the 'Attachments' tab allows you to search the content of these files. The system will return a list of the most relevant attachments. Clicking on the attachment filename will open that file and display it to you. Alternatively, underneath the snippet from the document is a line giving you more details with a link ('MyCA Page') that allows you to go direct to the page with the attachment.

Searching for CA Members
This tab allows you to search the CA membership database for details on members of the CA. You can search by their name or part of their name, by the town where they live, or their boat name. If more than one member matches your search, a list will be displayed. Click on the person's name to see details of a particular person. Details will only be shown if the member is not ex-directory.
Searching the Library Catalogue
You can also search the catalogue of the CA Library. You can search by book name (or part of a name), by the author, or by the subject (as held in the Library). The search will return a list of matching books. To see more details on the book, click on its title. The Library details will be displayed, along with a book review if there is one. If the book is available for loan, at the bottom of the review will be a button for you to click on to loan the book.
Refining Your Search
Sometimes you get much more back than you need. If so, try to refine your search by being more specific inthe search box. If you are looking for a particular phrase, try enclosing the phrase in quotation marks.
If you search one catagory and dont find what you want, try another by just clicking on the relevant tab. You wont have to enter your search words again.

Advanced Search

For the 'content' search you can use the Advanced Search to include different criteria e.g. only search for turkey on the MedNet page. Adding criteria can cut down the number of pages in the search results. Then click ‘Search My CA’. The pages matching the criteria are displayed.
