Uffa Fox was one of Britain’s best known and best loved yacht designers. From 1934 to 1938 Uffa produced five books describing and copiously illustrating the best designs of those years. As a celebration of the centenary of Uffa’s birth, Guy Coles’ 1978 compilation of extracts from Uffa’s five volumes has been re-issued. It certainly makes a fitting memorial. Many of the all-time classics such as Dorade and Dyarchy are here, while the range runs from Internatyional 14 dinghies to the Big Class. Anyone with an interest in yachts will gain much pleasure from thid superb volume, which includes a fascinating, if brief, biography of Uffa Fox himself. - CN
