From its sub title, "Skippering with Confidence right from the start", you can immediately relate to this book. One can never reach one’s potential at anything unless one has a perfect foundation to build on. Sailing is certainly no exception to this rule. There is a minimum one simply must know to take one’s friends to sea for twenty four hours in enjoyable safety. To see the look on a skipper’s face when he comes back from that first trip knowing he is returning his passengers to the shore having looked after them well, is the reward that gives inestimable pleasure to those of us who instruct.
The Royal Yachting Association covers this minimum knowledge so well with the syllabus of its Day Skipper Course. This book is an absolute delight in the way it puts it all across. It has clear printing, with simple colour diagrams and photographs galore, a simple clear glossary that leaves out fancy words that are not needed, a short but comprehensive index, the contents of all the chapters laid out in a logical simple order so that your confidence will grow as you work your way through it. It is a delight.
