I still have my hardback copy of the first edition from 1985 with a very youthful picture of the author on the fly.  I wonder what that might be worth.  There is no doubt of the value of this new version whether as a companion to the Almanac or standing on its own.

It now contains much of the immutable information that used to be in the Almanac which is now to be produced every other year: stuff about history, culture, first aid, geography and the like.  The author tells us that he has edited the text to be less discursive and warns some may find it “ a bit terse”.   I, for one, found the intention of making the information more accessible seems to work.  Again, Imray have moved this to full colour and it is a most attractive and informative package to read before travelling in the Med for the first time or as a companion for a regular visitor.  As an example, the section on “Anchors and Anchoring” is as fundamentally useful as any of the many special articles and some books devoted to the subject that I have seen. - MGMH
