Ah me, there are some books that the Association should not ask me to review and this is one of them purely because of the inspirational affect it has upon the reader.  This, one of the standard works on the Pacific, has been revised and updated to improve upon Mike Pocock’s original.  As the name implies, this book makes a distinction between crossing and cruising and delivers all the information you will need to make the passages between arguably the finest bluewater cruising grounds on the planet.

Aimed at both Europeans, who will have already crossed one ocean before arriving at the Panama Canal and Americans who, if they are based on West Coast, may not have yet made a long passage, this comprehensive guide provides all of the information such as selection of boat type, routes, communications, weather patterns, arrival and departure ports, together with insights into the many cultural aspects that you will meet on your travels.

The book is peppered with high quality colour photographs, chartlets and diagrams that make this a book to treasure in its own right.  This is, providing that it doesn’t have you running your eyes over the world girdling yachts at your local broker, checking whether your funds will stretch and ordering the charts for the passage. - CRE
