Written very much in the style of a personal diary rather than a log, Brenda has captured the essence of the joys of an inland cruise she made with her husband John, in their 35ft Catamaran from St Valery sur Somme through the French canal system to the Mediterranean. She describes both the interesting places they visited as well as the host of fascinating people they encountered on the way.

The book, as well as being a very enjoyable read, provides a considerable wealth of extremely useful information for those considering planning a similar adventure in their own boat.

As a CA member herself, Brenda has succeeded in including many of the details which others will find most useful, such as the need to study Navicartes in advance and where a licence to use French waterways can be obtained, together with invaluable information on headroom and draft along their chosen route.

It is a book that those contemplating a similar adventure will want to carry on board both for reference and to dip into along the way, to compare their own experiences of a trip many of us would like to undertake. - RWF
