A really comprehensive and authoritative instruction book on not just splicing as we have come to know it, but a delightful description of all the types of braided ropes and how to produce workmanlike results with them. Thrown in for full measure are whippings and three-stranded splices.

Although fifty years ago I myself spliced standing and running rigging, I'd tended to feel that any work on braided ropes was not for me but, with this book, one can safely embark on the new generation of ropework. Very heartily recommended. - JFB
