“Boat Pox” (osmosis) used to be the worst nightmare of owners, but, in the last few years, systems of repair and prevention have improved so much that DIY repairs and protective coating are quite in the realm of the average handy yachtsman - or must I say yachtsperson these days?

Tony Staton-Bevan has produced a comprehensive book covering GRP construction, gel-coat blistering and osmosis, deck and coachroof repairs, fitting out and ending with the prevention of osmosis. The text is clearly written and although detailed enough for professional boat-builders can be understood by the layman. The explanations are liberally illustrated with drawings and photos, some in colour.

Even if one is not prepared to tackle these tasks oneself this book is useful on any owner’s shelf if only to follow, understand and check what the experts are doing. –PGR
