A concise history summarises all Royal Naval battles from the Armada to the Falklands war. The content is arranged alphabetically and is based on battle honours received. Some engagements which should have been accorded honours but, due to tight Admiralty definitions , were not, have, however, also been included.

At the beginning of each entry there is a short summary giving the historical and political build up and reason for the battle. This is followed by a detailed list of the British ships engaged.
