Horsdal & Schubart, 1997;

Canadian members, provided they wet a line occasionally and have a North American sense of humour, may enjoy dipping into these two collections of short articles more than most. The author makes no acknowledgements but the notes say he is “an award winning outdoor writer..... his work appearing across the continent”

It is mostly about sea-angling (and cans of beer!), he does cover fly fishing for game fish and its literature. There are some excellent natural history pieces. These include fish spawning and the subaquatic skills of the dipper; any stream fisher will gladly lay aside his rod to watch this shy bird. Most of the action is in Vancouver Island where, like all anglers (and cruising yachtsman), he does have his secret places. he also covers the eastern provinces including Nova Scotia. There are pieces on game fishing in Germany, where he served in the RCAF, and in Yugoslavia.

It is a pity there are no photographs in this paperback. Like most who write of their outdoor pursuits, he is a very keen lens man. - GS
