Practical Boat Owner magazine have produced a useful guide to the Channel Islands which is designed to supplement pilot and charts. The scope of this 34 page book ranges from tidal details, navigational warnings and plans showing prominent land and sea marks, through to recommended restaurants, cafes and shops. It is well-produced and clearly has the benefit of a great deal of local knowledge; it includes a range of attractive photos, including several excellent aerial views which could provide a real aid to pilotage. the main islands are explored separately and the book lacks any overall plan or chart to assist passge planning between them. It also includes a number of pages of advertising but, at just five pounds, it’s undoubtedly good value. NMH
