Corsica & North SardiniaUnlike other RCC/Imray pilots I have seen, this one is a paperback but no less useful or user friendly for that.

Another intriguing difference is that facilities are listed as “Exceptions” to the norm. The norm is, apparently, consistently comprehensive in this region and listed in the Introduction. The coloured chartlets and comprehensive list of waypoints have been updated to WSG 84 and are complemented by numerous aerial colour photographs and thorough descriptions. There are numerous historical references and I was pleased to read of the origins of our own Martello Towers, which were based on the Genoese ones found on Corsica. The resistance of these to the bombardment so impressed Lord Howe that he had the design and details sent back to England, where they were used to build the towers used to defend ourselves against Napoleon – a Corsican!

All in all this yachtsman’s guide is a good read and an excellent advertisement for these cruising grounds. I hope it encourages many of our members to sruise the area. - IG
