This well established guide is celebrating its 25th edition with a nostalgic cover collage of its earlier copies and a small insert “ a trip down memory channel”. The “charts” in this welcome publication, as in many American guides, are not the more sophisticated chartlets that we are used to in most European books of a similar nature. They are usually a very rough sketch map of the area in question. They are, with care, however, useful for broad scale planning. You will finda wealth of useful information if you are cruising these waters. The charts are almost exclusively black and white though the advertisements which abound are in full colour. The latter, of course, are of benefit themselves quite apart from their role in maintaining a reasonable price.
Florida is neatly divided into sections with the Bahamas listed separately. More than 400 place names are indexed to the appropriate diagrams. All manner of data appear in tables: Tide Tables; bridge opening times for river crossings, boat slips, restaurants, fishing grounds, immigration matters, even photos of Harbour Masters, useful websites, distance tables and, impossible in the UK,: nearly 500 pump-out stations are listed. All this and much more make this a great adjunct to planning a cruise around these shores. - MD.
