There are a number of marine engine guides on the market, each covering much the same ground. They vary from the comprehensive and advanced, which can be a bit heavy going for the uninitiated, to the more basic, easier to follow but more limited in scope. This example, though quite slim, tends towards the upper end of the spectrum and deals not only with basic engine functions but also electrics, control systems, turbocharging and intercooling, gearboxes, and propellors and shaft systems. Each section provides detailed coverage of its
subject matter with highlighted features on good maintenance practice, trouble shooting, and emergency get-you-home dodges. Servicing and winterising are also dealt with.

The book is published in a ring binder format, on stiff glossy card, easy to keep open at the page you want and resistant to staining by oily fingers. The coloured diagrams are very clear, though in one or two instances perhaps a bit burdened with detail. Bearing in mind the above comments this book can be recommended as a well thought out and produced example of its kind. - BMF
