To quote from the covering letter sent to the CA from the UK distributor - a Theatrical Chandlers: "It seems to contain information on every subject under the sun, but for the cruising sailor, the section on knots, wire strengths, first aid, trig formulas, magnetic declination, abrasive types and the phonetic alphabet will be of particular interest. The intrepid yachtsman venturing to the Caribbean may like to use the Chilli Strength Tables and those heading to Spitzbergen can refer to the Ice Strength Tables. If you are laid up in a boat yard, impress the crane driver by using the correct Crane Hand Signals. Armchair yachtsmen can use it to compile or (cheat in!) pub quizzes".
And the other 700 pages? You will have grasped this is a somewhat quirky reference book. Also, it seems more directed at the construction industry. The parent publisher is American so much of the data is irrelevant to the UK (including declination), although surprisingly for USA, there is an index. It is genuinely pocket-sized. - JT
