Continuing the work of Adlard Coles and Johnnie Coote, Tom Cunliffe guides yachtsmen and women down both side of the English Channel and gives valuable advice on crossing between the two coasts. It is a comprehensive book, containing information on formalities, tidal streams, weather services and even wildlife at sea.

Each chapter begins with passage notes before detailing port and harbour information. Navigational information is supported by a combination of plans and photographs, including aerial photographs. Advice for approach and entry is clear and precise and is followed by detailed information on berthing. (Not all marinas and ports, especially those in France, use radio contact to allocate berths.)  New to this edition is the quick reference box found at the beginning of each port entry which contains a résumé of all essential information. It even includes whether there is manoeuvring space sufficient for dropping sails.  The needs of those who prefer the quiet of an anchorage are not forgotten.

This edition reflects the greater use of technology, so reference is made to GPS positions and plotters as well as the more traditional bearings and leading lines. There is information on wifi and internet access and the strength of mobile phone signals. Thought has been given to providing all the information that may be required during a cruise. This guide would enhance any exploration of the English Channel.
