Preparing
'Preparing' covers aspects common to all Mediterranean sailing; how to get there, what to consider when equipping the boat, and some local mooring and anchoring techniques. Check the Preparing to Cruise pages to catch up with the more general aspects of cruising in foreign waters - what paperwork to carry . . .
Detail pages (available to members only) in this section cover the following topics:
- Getting There - and Back. Options are: a 9 day voyage starting from the Solent; a coast hopping cruise for a month or six; a gourmet potter through the French canals; or shipping your boat by road or sea.
- Boat equipment. Heat, sudden wind shifts, hot sun and different mooring techniques change your priorities when fitting out.
- Mooring Techniques. 'End on' mooring, whether to a quay, or with a long line ashore, is a new game for many crews. Great entertainment for onlookers. And your anchors will work much harder than (for instance) cruising around the crowded waters of southern England.
- Cruise Costs. useful cost sheets submitted by memebrs to aid your budget planning. Note the dates
- The Med Section - Your ever-ready group of members who provide support for all things Mediterranean: email nets for news and questions (Mednet, Ionian, Marmaris) with conversations recorded on the forum; pilot book updates; pre-season seminars; rallies; social events.
