This set of Harbour Anchorage and
Navigation Notes (HANNs) is longer than usual as HANNs will now be produced only
3 times a year rather than 4 as previously due to the CA magazine which will now
go to our members 6 times a year rather than 4. HANNs therefore will go out with
alternate postings.
As usual HANNs reminds members of any Admiralty notices to mariners (NMs) which
affect an entry in the Cruising Almanac 2005/06. This covers many changes
in lights, movement of buoys and in a few cases such as Dover where new piers
have been installed. It also gives a brief reference to reports from our members
who send in comments on harbours and anchorages they have visited.
Corrections to the Cruising Almanac are now on the internet www.cruising.org.uk/almanac
Issue 1.2 15/3/05 and cumulative amendments to corrections 05 dated 24/6/05.
For those with larger boats of the 38 visitor's moorings at Hugh Town St
Marys in the Scilly Isles 10 are suitable for vessels over 20m loa.
In the approaches to Poole Harbour there are two historic wrecks, one
very close to the ldg line at 50°39'.9N 1°55'.5W.
There is a new marking for the small craft channel for entering Portsmouth.
The Ballast buoy has been replaced by a lt bn FlR 2.5s. Entry is between
the No 4 Bar buoy QR and the Ballast buoy. The Ballast bn
is left to port whether entering or leaving.
Many changes in depths and consequent movement of buoys off the entrance to the
river Deben
Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland is best avoided as there is
little room for yachts although having a rail connection to Glasgow it is useful
to pick up or set down crew. Loch Nevis at Inverie is about 5M
away and is a pleasant anchorage with a very good pub/restaurant ashore. Ferry
to Mallaig twice a day weekdays.
Many visitors moorings now available at Tobermory. The landing place for
dinghies is in the corner of the hbr near the distillery.
100 statues 2m high will be placed at Liverpool Crosby foreshore where
they will remain until 30/11/06. Marked at 500m intervals by Y poles with
topmarks and Y fl lts.
We report many changes to depths and buoyage at the SW entrance to the Menai
Straits.
Many reports as usual from our members sailing in the Mediterranean. Also
some detailed directions for going through the Suez canal and marinas on
the approach from the Red Sea.
