CA Burgee  HANNs 05/1 Precis

HANNs Precis

This set of Harbour Anchorage and Navigation Notes (HANNs) is longer than usual as HANNs will now be produced only 3 times a year rather than 4 as previously due to the CA magazine which will now go to our members 6 times a year rather than 4. HANNs therefore will go out with alternate postings.

As usual HANNs reminds members of any Admiralty notices to mariners (NMs) which affect an entry in the Cruising Almanac 2005/06. This covers many changes in lights, movement of buoys and in a few cases such as Dover where new piers have been installed.

It is with much relief that our representations through the Conference of Yacht Cruising Clubs that the government has decided not to charge light dues on leisure craft. This is an issue that comes up at intervals but hopefully will be left alone for a few years now.

The Loran-C System is going out of business on 1 January 2006.

As usual the bars at the entrance to the River Deben and the River Ore have changed and Trinity House have carried out their surveys which are now available.

Lossiemouth has shut down as a fishing port and is now dedicated to berthing for yachts.

Many of our members cruise the Baltic and send in reports of harbours and various issues in that region. The latest position about discharging sewage at sea is now known. Much work is going on at Goteborg where the two main fairways are being widened and deepened.

There is a nature reserve off Isla Ons off Ria de Pontevedra.

One of our members cruised to the Lofoten Islands off the coast of Norway. Plenty of room to sail in sheltered waters between the islands and the mainland.

The Cruising Association has a strong Mediterranean section and there are a host of reports from members updating 6 pilots covering the Mediterranean. These are available to CA members only and cover 1 Med France and Corsica, 2 Med Spain and Balearics, 3 W and S Italy, Sicily and Malta, 4 Adriatic inc E coast of italy, 5 Greece, and 6 Turkey + Levant, Cypress, Syria, lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.

Further afield our members have visited Malaysia with notes on various anchorages there. Also visited were the Philippines, Puerto Galero, Mindoro where there are facilities for yachts.

One lengthy cruise covered sailing from Trinidad to Australia including Pacific islands Galapagos Is, Marquesa Is, Tuamoto Atolls, Society Is, Bora Bora, Cook Is, Tonga, Fiji, and Vanuata and on to New Zealand and Australia. Much information here in our regional files.
