HANNs Precis

HANNs 04/3 is the third in the series of Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes for 2004 which members of the Cruising Association have received this year. Below are listed some of the matters of interest taken both from members contributions and the Admiralty Notices to Mariners.

The full notes are related to the pages in the Cruising Almanac 2003/2004 published by Imray Laurie, Norie and Wilson in conjunction with the Cruising Association. Available to member for £22.50 + postage and £28 to non members.

Notices to mariners now frequently give maps showing the range of Digital Selective Calling and HANNs gives notice to members of these. Recent ones have covered the Baltic, British Isles, and the continental coast from Norway to La Coruña.

We also draw the attention of members to improved Met services now available on the internet.

We are now getting excellent surveys of the entrances to both the River Deben and the Ore. The entrances to these two rivers change every winter and local surveys are carried out in the Spring.

One of our members navigated the East Coast of England and Scotland and has sent in reports on many of the smaller harbours on this coastline.

There were also reports of many harbours on the south coast of Ireland between Cork and Bantry Bay including Glengariff at the head of the Bay. The full reports in our regional files give much information where you can take on water and fuel as well as other supplies.

As well as the recent enlargement of the shipping lanes off the NW coast of Brittany there is now an enlarged traffic separation zone of Cape Finisterre with double lanes going in each direction.

Our Hon local Representative in Croatia continues to send us news of developments there and is researching the full list of marinas on this coast.

Detailed reports of many anchorages and harbours round the coast of Sardinia have been received. This coastline seems to becoming very popular although not as crowded as Greece or Turkey.

Finally reports from our members cruising worldwide, this time from Queensland Australia.
