CA Burgee  HANNs 04/1 Precis

HANNs Precis

HANNs 04/1 is the first in the series of Harbour, Anchorage, and Navigation Notes for 2004 which members of the Cruising Association will receive this year. Below are listed some of the high lights received from members who send in reports from all over the world.

Admiralty Notices to Mariners which cause amendments to the Cruising Almanac 2003/2004 published by the Cruising Association and Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson are noted in the full version of this HANNs.

Wind Farms are now being built off our coasts some within 5 miles of the coast. HANNs 04/1 gives information as to where the Phase 1 and Phase 2 sites will be. Yachtsmen will also be interested in the height above HWS of the blades which will be 22m. Sounds all right for most cruising yachts but in a swell this clearance can drop dramatically.

There has been much cruising along both the N coast of Spain and the Atlantic coast of Spain and Portugal. Our members have sent in several reports on harbours on these coasts which are becoming very useful to those on passage to the Mediterranean.

Our members went to the Baltic and we have reports from Finland and the East coast of Sweden.

In the Mediterranean Sicily was visited by two members. One doing a circumnavigation and sending us reports on 24 harbours and anchorages. We also had reports about the Aeolian Islands many written up with sketch plans.

3 members went to Sardinia mostly to the Northern half of the island which is a particularly pleasant cruising area.

Around the toe of Italy there are there is much new and up to date information. This extends right up the Adriatic where one member produced reports on 38 harbours and anchorages. A lot of new and up to date information here.

As usual there are many reports about Greece. In one case 44 harbours and anchorages were written up..

Further afield one of our circumnavigators visited Malaysia with information about 8 harbours in the Mallacca Straits.

Finally one of the many of our members cruising the Pacific wrote up Vanuatu a group of islands NE of New Caledonia.
