HANNs Precis

Hanns 03/3 is the third in the series Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes for 2003 which members of the Cruising Association have received this year. Below are listed some of the notes on anchorages and harbours received from our members who as usual have sent in reports from all over the World.

Admiralty Notices to Mariners which will have caused amendments to the Cruising Almanac 2003/2004 published by the Cruising Association and Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson are noted in this HANNs.

Lights and buoyage continually change and these are noted where they affect plans and sailing directions in the Cruising Almanac. One significant notice in Thorn channel leading to Southampton Water is the moving prohibited zone around large vessels over 150m loa which extends 1000m in front and 100m at the side of the vessel.

The marina in Holyhead is now complete in the SW corner of the harbour.

In the river Aberdovey there have recently been changes in the depths in the river and the outer approach buoy has been moved further out. to the NNW. There are also more lighted buoys in the river.

We continue to receive from one of our honorary local representatives in France details of official notices applying to the French Inland Waterways.

Many harbours on the West coast of France received a visit from one of our members and these are duly reported on.

This HANNs contains a lot of information on the N and NW coasts of Spain where most of the harbours were visited early in the summer. Of particular interest are those concerning Gijon, Aviles, Viveiro, La Coruña, Portosin and Bayona.

One of our members is bringing his boat back from Norway and Sweden via Denmark where he has spent several seasons and his report will be available to our members on the internet.

A large number of reports from one of our round the world members who visited a lot of ports in Queensland and the Northern territories of Australia where he gives not only detailed descriptions of the navigation required but also of the customs and local facilities.
