HANNs 03/1 is the first in the series of Harbour, Anchorage, and Navigation
Notes for 2003 which members of the Cruising Association have received this year. Below
are listed some of the high lights received from members who send in reports from all over
the world.
Admiralty Notices to Mariners which cause amendments to the Cruising Almanac 2003/2004
published by the Cruising Association and Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson are noted in
this HANNs.
We received a lock by lock description of the Gironde, the Canal Lateral a La
Garonne , the Canal du Midi and the Canal du Rhone a Sete. This covers just
about everything you need to know if cutting through from the Bay of Biscay to the
Mediterranean.
Advice received on wintering in La Rochelle where one of our members found good
service and security.
Many reports came in on ports on the North coast of Spain including Bilbao, Santander,
Gijon, Ribadeo and Ria de Vivero. Also advice on marinas at Sada in Ria de Betanzos and Ria de Vigo Bayona.
We received a comprehensive document on weather forecasts in the Baltic covering
times and frequencies, sea area names, and phonetic translation of key words in German,
Danish and Swedish.
As usual our members have cruised extensively in the Mediterranean and we now have very
extensive reports on harbours in the Adriatic, as well as most detailed notes on
most of the places to visit and anchor in the Ionian area of Greece.
A useful summary of the various charges and formalities in the Lesser Antilles in the
Caribbean
One of our members on his round the world trip this time reported in detail on Northern
Australia, Christmas Island, and Cocos Keeling. He then traversed the Indian
Ocean reporting on Mauritius, and the Reunion Islands before finally
arriving in S Africa.
The Cruising Association give prizes each year in recognition of logs submitted by
members of their previous summer's cruises. A lot this year on visits to S Brittany and the West coast of France.
All the above are available to members in regional files in the CA library at their
