HANNs Precis

HANNs 02/1 is the first of 4 in a series of Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes this year. It gives a short synopsis of contributions which we have received from our members cruising in different parts of the world. Below are listed a few highlights from their reports.

We also list the Admiralty Notices to mariners which affect the sailing directions and plans in the Cruising Association Handbook 8th edition.

There have been many changes to shipping forecasts both as to times and frequencies from MRCC stations as well as the more obvious change of Fitzroy for Finnisterre.

Our system of giving our members notice of places where our Honorary Local Representatives may be found has been improved dramatically with internet access to our members.

One such use of our local HLR at Teignmouth was his report to us of substantial changes to the leading line following new arrangements made by the harbourmaster. The old line 334° is abolished and a system of marker buoys now shows the way in.

The Cardiff Barrage is now complete and notices to mariner gives some good blocks showing the way in.

One of our members spent the whole summer cruising the French coasts in Biscay going into every conceivable anchorage and his work is available in our regional files to our members.

We continue to have a strong presence in the Baltic and in this issue there is an account of a couple cruising the Swedish archipelago up to near the Finnish border.

One couple spent the summer cruising Croatia visiting over 70 harbours and anchorages and writing up copious notes on each. They also sussed out places to lay up for the winter.

Some excellent reports from Malaysia and Thailand which appear to be delightful places to visit by sea.

Finally as always there are members in the South Pacific islands and Australia whose reports on customs and immigration are invaluable.
