CA Burgee  HANNs 01/4 Precis

HANNs Precis

HANNs 01/4 is last this year in the series of Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes which members of the Cruising Association will have received this year. Below are listed some high lights received from members who send in reports from all over the world.

Also listed are Admiralty Notices to Mariners which affect sailing directions and plans in the CA Handbook 8th edition.

If you don't know what 'upright depths' are in Notices to Mariners there is a complete explanation under the general items listed in this HANN's.  Also under this heading is a note setting out the principal changes to the Marine Weather Forecast areas coming into force on 4th February.  Fairly minor adjustments of a few boundaries for the UK.  More substantial ones for French forecasts and in the Mediterranean.

Some details of the Forth-Clyde Canal which opened this summer allowing yachts to pass from the Firth of Forth to the Firth of Clyde and the reverse.  Although the passage involves unstepping and after passing through, re-stepping the mast, which means at least a 2 day job for the passage, this can be a real plus for those boats on the east coast wishing to cruise the West coast of Scotland and the Hebrides.

Those cruising to Ireland and going to Baltimore can now get through to Roaring Water Bay without having to come out and go round.  The overhead power cable has been removed in the NW exit.

The last of the reports from one of our members who over the last two years did a circumnavigation of Norway is now in our Regional Files which means that we have an enormous quantity of information on the whole length of the coast of that country.

In this edition of HANN's we have had a number of very extensive reports of harbours and anchorages in the Mediterranean.  No fewer than 15 reports on harbours in Corsica,  21 in Sardinia, 12 on the French Coast and 4 in Morocco.

Sicily also found favour from 2 members who circumnavigated the island covering all the harbours there.  They also visited the Aeolian Islands.

As usual we received a lot of information on places in Greece with one couple referencing their comments and and corrections to 30 ports in the local pilot for the area.

For those going further afield there is a detailed account of the new fees for passing through the Suez Canal.

The Azores and the Canaries were visited.  Also reports of 9 ports in Malaysia and as usual messages from islands in the South Pacific.
