HANNs 01/2 is the second in the series of Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes which members of the Cruising Association have received this year. Below are listed some high lights received from members who send in reports from all over the world. Admiralty notices to mariners affecting the sailing directions and plans in the CA Handbook are mentioned in these notes. Our members and no doubt others will have experienced problems with depths in the entrance to Sovereign harbour at Eastbourne. A report from one member tells of his experiences. Information on the entry to Heybridge Basin in the river Blackwater. News on the beacons at Woodbridge Haven at the mouth of the R Deben. Whitehaven in Cumbria has seen some changes recently and the whole of the inner harbour is now enclosed by a sea lock. At Watchet on the south side of the Bristol channel we have been keeping a close watch on the projected marina which has been through a long period of g estation. Looks as if it will be arriving shortly. Dungarvan on the south coast of Ireland is not much visited but we have recently received from a yacht broker also a sailor details of buoyage in the entrance and sailing directions for entry. Lots of information re the Schengen Agreement and its application to yachts entering and leaving countries which have signed up to it and those who have not such as the UK. We have the usual number of reports from the Mediterranean covering the Spanish coast and the Bal -learic Islands; and of course Greece where we have a lot of our members keeping their boats. Further afield there are notes on Malaysia and Singapore And in the Indian ocean Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The most outstanding contribution to our knowledge of distant parts was sent in by a member covering just about everything you want to know concerning supplies, pilots, charts and equipment that you might want for a cruise across the Pacific ocean calling at innumerable islands. A must for anyone on a circumnavigation round the world Page created 17 May 2001 |
