HANNs Precis

HANNs 00/4 is the last and fourth instalment of Harbour, Anchorage and Navigation Notes which members of the Cruising Association have sent in during 2000. Below are listed some excerpts from the full notes available to members. There is much unique information here of interest and relevant to yachtsmen sent in by members from experiences they obtained during their cruises this year.

Changes to lights and buoyage are gathered from Notices to Mariners now available on the internet are noted in this issue. In particular reference has been made to those charts and positions which are now related to WGS 84.

Poole Harbour has had record 28 changes to the buoyage and lights. There are also plans and notes received from the harbour master which members can see in our regional files.

Important new waiting and passing areas have been established in Portsmouth harbour.

A lengthy closure of the Caledonian Canal over the winter reopening next spring after repairs to Laggan lock.

Lots of changes reported from Ireland including a new pontoon at Dun Laoghaire and marina berths at Arklow.

One of our members sent in reports on 15 places in the Netherlands including information about the high mast route from Amsterdam to Bruinisse.

Belle Ile is a popular call for those visiting South Brittany but most only visit Le Palais or perhaps Sauzon. We now have reports from a member who visited 5 other anchorages on the island.

Arising from the CA rally to St Petersburg there is yet more information on the many places en route that they visited on the way back including harbours in Finland, Estonia & Latvia.

Members cruised extensively in both the west and east Mediterranean. Useful information has been received on many ports on the Costas del Sol and Blanca and also further North where ports on the Costas Azahar, Dorada & Brava were visited.

One member was particularly adventurous visiting 10 ports in Montenegro and more in Albania. This part of was served well by another member who sent us reports on 37 harbours and anchorages in the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Tuscan Islands

Another rally by members in the East Mediterranean involved visits to Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, and Cyprus Very useful notes here on the customs and visa regulations in these countries for visiting yachtsmen.

Once again members visited and sent in reports from places in the Indianocean. Mauritius & La Reunion Islands being two places that do not see a lot of yachts.

Another couple went to Brunei, Borneo & Sabah. A lot of useful information here for those on a circumnavigation.

Finally reports from various harbours in North island New Zealand.
