Friendly Norwegian custom practice finally in place

The new law that regulates how foreign boats can be left in Norway has finally been changed. Now you can leave the boat for the winter and return in the spring to continue the cruise – all you need is to apply in advance. Read more on TheSailBlog.

Danish family released by pirates

The seven Danish sailors who where taken hostages by Somali pirates in February has been released. All seven are on their way back home to Denmark and are reported to ” doing well under the circumstances”.

Norwegian Custom offices has through the years had a very different approach on how to handle foreign sailors who wants to leave their boat for the winter and come back again the next summer to continue their cruise. The big issue here is VAT and HP tax as Norway is not a member of the EU.

Norwegian cruisers circumnavigating the North Pole

The three Norwegians Trond Aasvoll, Hans Fredrik Haukland and Finn Andreassen has started their attempt to circumnavigate the North pole in a 36 foot sailing yacht from 1977. Global warming can, scarily enough, contribute to their success to sail the North East and the North West passage in one season.
