See CA Handbook 8th Ed page 96 which gives charlet and full details for entering.

Southwold is a most attractive town and fishing/pleasureboat port between Orford and Lowestoft. Also home of Adnams, brewed in the centre of town. This picture is taken from the esplanade above a steep slope down to the beach.S Lighthouse
Soutwolds first 810' pier was built 1899/1900 but T-head destroyed by gale 1934. Repaired 1948 to be shortened by storm 1979 to 100'. Rebuilt 1999/2000 to 623' with T-head to take steamers P.S.Waveryey and M.V.Balmoral, whose service beginns 2002. New pier
The pier is more conspicuous than the harbour entrance to the South of the town. Souhwold is famous for its beach huts which fetch extraordinary sums. Seafront
Southwold Harbour entrance on half ebb with 5 knot stream and force 6 crosswind - no time to enter but it can be much worse with strong onshore wind which sets up standing waves in the approach. Best entered at HW±½ Southwold Harbour
Inside the entrance channel with dog-leg bend and knuckle clearly visible. Lifeboat crane centre picture with inshore lifeboat station overlooking it. Southwold Harbour
The Harbour Inn. An austere exterior hides an intimate and genuinely old interior. Adnams ales and very popular bar meals. Very crowded in summer. The horizontal board under the central sign shows the level of the exceptional high tide in 1973 that caused extensive flooding on the East Coast. !!!!!!!!!!!!s Soutwold Harbour Inn
Visitors quay (no pontoon so you need long lines and springs) is beyond private pontoon in foreground. Sailing Club on left. Harbour entrance channel in distance. The navigable limit is set by a footbridge about ¼ mile inland. There is also a ferry during the summer. Southwold Visitors Quay
Southwold SC (just visible in picture above) across the river Blyth. There are a number of boatyards and a chandlery here. SSC
