CA burgee  R Ore: Shingle St

Shingle Street is the hamlet at the entrance to the River Ore, which has undergone a dramatic change during the 2000/01 winter. The former inshore entrance has been sealed off with the massive shingle bank seen in the first picture, leaving a huge lagoon to our left and the small lagoon at the right. The river entrance will be much the same as last year's newly buoyed (during the season) channel. Pictures at Low Water Springs.

NB The lagoon has returned to the sea after gales in Autumn 2003. Pictures retained for possible historic interest. February 2004

The speck you see on the tip of this bank is the fisherman in the bottom picture. The Orford Haven Buoy, not visible at this definition, is about 6mm left of the fisherman. Shingle St E
Looking N (it's noon) up the river with the new entrance to the right and a very narrow channel (above our shadows) leading to the huge lagoon.
Channel closed following gale, leaving isolated lake Lagoon now broken into sea and no more, 10/2/04
