CA burgee  Aldeburgh's Memorial to Britten

Maggi Hambling's 12ft-high scallop shell memorial to Benjamin Britten is on a deserted beach just north of Aldeburgh. It is built to withstand sea gales of up to 100mph.
And that, for some residents of Aldeburgh, is part of the trouble. They believe the only way to get rid of it is to move it from their shingle beach on the Suffolk coast to Snape, where folk are thought to have more robust artistic sensibilities. It was unveiled in Autumn 2003.
Although the composer spent much of his life in Aldeburgh, he was previously marked only by his gravestone and a window in the church.
The £70,000 tribute, cut from four tonnes of stainless steel, was meant to evoke a line from his best known opera, Peter Grimes: "I hear those voices that will not be drowned."
Like it or love it? Views seem equally divided, but it is defintely controversial! View looking Northwest, up the coast  View looking West, and view from the sea. At its best?
View from North. It attracts a stream of visitors, and is most popular with children as a sheltered den or adventure climbing frame.   The inscription cut through the edge of the shell can just be seen in this picture. View looking East out to sea.
