Trondheim, 63N26.03, 10E22.55 (DNK200,458)
Enter W end of canal (position as above) which now has an additional breakwater (not shown even in 2001 harbour brochure!) so entry from E. Either moor in large marina before railway bridge or call Skansen Bridge (bascule railway) on Ch74 (bridge opens 06-07 (not w/e), 10-12, 14-15, 17-20, 2139-2400) and moor in boxes by railway bridge (note strongish current!), NOK65. Electricity NOK35, call Trodheim Port on Ch14, or 73991710 or 91112600 (24hr) to get them to unlock electricity box. Shower 15Kr for 5 minutes, Washing m/c Kr20, drier Kr20 in basement of red building next to SAS Royal Garden Hotel Hotel; key card NOK100 deposit NOK70 refundable.
Extensive chandelry and many good shops. Calor propane bottles can be filled at Aga depot in Leda about 3km NW from Station.
Cathedral well worth visiting, Kr35 inc. tower and organ concert 1300-1315, and museum.
Chrisiansen Fort offers excellent view.

Raudberget, 63N29.19, 9E59.92 (DNK39)
Sandbakken Marina built 5 years ago (and therefore not in latest Den Norske Los) on E side of existing fishing harbour with sheltered E facing entry. Guest fingers or hammerhead on main pontoon. NOK50. Electricity NOK20. Shower NOK15. Use of WCs NOK5 per person per day. Very pleasant countryside, museum and church 1km, but shop further? Recommended. 11/7/01

Brekstad, 63N41.10, 9E40.30 (DNK 43)
(About 4NM S of Uthaug by land, 27NM Trondheim))
Large mole harbour with central ferry and express ferry terminals and two guest pontoons, one in NE corner (position as above) with new pontoon, other in SW with root between red building and smart white hotel. Both have electricity, water and diesel (telephone to obtain service, was NOK4.9/litre) but the latter is subject to disturbance from ferries and was fully occupied by four visitors on our visit. Both charge NOK50 plus NOK20 for electricity. Presumably htel facilities can be used, no others. MIX kiosk open ferry hours. Two supermarkets. Austrått Castle and Fort (with guns from disabled battleship Gneisnau) about 4NM by road or can be visited from Austrått marina (same charges, shower). 16/7/01

Uthaug, 63N43.51, 9E35.08 (DNK43)
Large harbour with guests on hammerhead of main pontoon in SW corner. NOK50. Electricity NOK10 on root of pontoon needs 100m cable. Excellent shower Kr10. Coop store and PO 9-17(14)Fri:1730. Recommended.

Djupfest, 63N46.9, 10E34.7 (DNK43)
Byfest Marina shares tiny harbour with ferry to Tarva.
Guests on end of pontoon close to ferry with barely room to do a 180 degree turn close to the mole. Exposed to North. Byfest seems to have seen better days as it now has no facilities other than water. Reconstruction of building to house facilities evidently abandoned. Shop not within walking distance. Not recommended. 11/7/01

Stokkøya, 64N19.39, 10E17.1 (DNK44)
Well sheltered new marina inside short breakwater on Flatholmen island which is connected to Stokkøya by causeway). Not shown in 1998 DNL photo, nor is new 30m concrete bridge to mainland. Large sign MARINA GJESTEKAI visible from N. Visitors quay on end of main pontoon. NOK50. Electricity Kr10. Water. No other facilities. Coop and PO 9-18(15) in large grey building on S coast about 10E1.2 with own H-shaped pontoons which could presumably be used overnight (vacant when seen). Diesel here. Hurtigrunen uses this route, sounding its deep horn on the sharp bends. 10/7/01

Sandvikberget, 64N19.4, 10E27.0 (DNK45)
End of pontoon in N part of harbour (with fingers for resident boats) suitable for visitors. Not shown in plan in 1998 DNL p298, extends S to northernmost post. No facilities, electricity, water or charge. Turn left leaving pontoon for road to Hepsø's supermarket and china store 9-17(14). Post box. Sandy beach in bay beyond shop. 8/7/01

Sætervågen, 64N23.7, 10E28.8 (DNK 45)

Quay for visitors inside breakwater, no charge. Electricity. WCs in little hut above car park. Store and PO 10-17(14). Very attractive and friendly scattered village with easily climbed 130m rocky hills behind. School with 20 pupils. Recommended. 9/7/01


Bessaker, 64N14.9, 10E19.6 (DNK45)
Tiny harbour for those liking solitude. Shop, washing machine, showers, restaurant. Annie Ollivier-Pallud, Pouic V, 9/7/01

Rørvik, 64N51.7, 11E13.8 (DNK 48)
Guests use seaward side of first pontoon, which is inadequate at weekends. NOK70 includes electricity.
Water. Clubroom with washing machine (Kr30) and dryer (free), galley, TV. Shower Kr10 for 5 minutes.
REMI supermarket nearby 10-20(18) and two others. Diesel quay on N side just NE of small boat harbour. Bookshop sells DNL and charts. English papers. PO. Banks and two dispensers. Museum worth visiting. Church opens 2000-2130 (and museum reopens) for Hurtigrunen passengers. Splendid view of town and fjord from suspension bridge, 60m clearance. 7/7/01

Brønnøsund, 65N28.42, 12E12.44 (DNK 53)
New visitors-only harbour with water and electricity (outside pontoon only). NOK50 plus NOK15 for electricity, collected. Diesel quay just S of harbour, very helpful. No facilities but Norwegian Cruising Guide says excellent lunch in Yacht Harbour building (not found). Large Mega supermarket 09-20(18) and others with later opening. PO. Banks. Huge concrete bridge over fjord has sharp bend at great height, and gives excellent views. Torghatten, the 260m mountain with the hole through it, can be reached by bike (15km over this bridge) and well-engineered path with 400 steps, or by water where there is a short-stay quay; the hole is 35m high, 20-30m wide, and 160m long, with 108-step stairs to N opening with stunning view of archilepago below. 5/7/01

Tjøttaa, 65N49.22, 12E25.76 (DNK57)
Fishing and ferry harbour. Outward side of first (concrete) pontoon reserved for visitors alongside berthing. NOK50 inc electricity. Store with some chandlery 0830-1800 (0900-1500). Fuel. PO. Good walking area. 4/6/01

Alstahaug, 65N53.6, 12E23.6 (DNK57)
Wooden quay for short-stay to see poet Petter Dass monument, early stone church and museum.
A "must" for Norwegians! 4/6/01

Sandnessjøen, Havnevesen 66N1.36, 12E37.75 (DNK57)
Guest pontoon at town centre alongside Coop supermarket. Berth NOK50 inc. electricity but needed very long cable. No water. English papers in town. Big (cheaper) Remo 1000 supermarket at E end. Ideal for short stop, busy port, 2/7/01

Sandnessjøen, Båtforening 66N1.19, 12E36.63 (DNK57)
Club marina with guest pontoon. Diesel from card pump only. Alongside-berthing pontoon reserved for visitors. Attractive Club House with TV lounge and galley. Berth NOK50, electricity NOK10, shower NOK20, wash m/c and dryer NOK20ea. Short walk out of town (see above) Recommended 2/7/01

Nesna, mainland W of Hugla, 66N12.08, 13E1.03 (DNK59)
Useful overnight stop for those not wanting to divert inland to Mo I Rama. Large marina with visitors berths on end of the 4 pontoons (fifth under construction). NOK50 plus NOK10 electricity. Club Room with showers (NOK10 for 6mins), washing machine (NOK30) and dryer (NOK30), cooking facilities, TV lounge. 1/7/01

Indre Kvarøy 66N 29.34, 12E57.84 (DNK62)
Convenient passage stop at crossroads between four fjords, Kvar to N and Stig to S. Also just southy of the arctic circle noted by huge globe on Vikingen Is (*actually 66N32.0)
New pontoon off shoreside with four finger berths for visitors plus original alongside pontoon inside mole. No electricity or water. Well stocked shop 1000-1400 (1000-1300).
Population 80 mainly fish-farming. School has 20 children (7 to 14) and 4 teachers, 4 PCs. 1/7/01

Engøyra, Hollands Fd. 66N42.53, 42E42.80 (DNK 63)
Stop here to visit magnificent Svarteisen glacier, a must! Pontoon with good depth off long wooden jetty. No charge. No facilities and roads land-locked, just going to ferry, farms and via tourist cafe (1000-1800) to glacier. Easy walk to viewpoint at safe distance from glacier snout, steep scramble up glaciated rockneeds boots. Guide available. Subsequently learnt that glacier best accessed by crossing wooded moraine with bridge over stream connecting lake and fjord. NB! Pontoon reported untenable with strong W wind blowing up fjord. 29/6/01

Inndyr 67N2.18, 14E1.52 (DNK 64)
Attractive mainland harbour on inlet from Sör Fd. Visitors pontoon, Kr80 with no facilities for payment. Claims to have showers but not found. Electricity. Shell bunker on S side on way in. Small store with PO (1000-2200, 1400-2200 Sun) near, Coop supermarket (0930-2000 (1600)). Fishing school with turf-covered roof overlooks sea. 28/6/01

Bodø 67N17.01 14E22.20 (DNK65)
Visitors berths alongside outer pontoon (best) of marina immediately inside harbour entrance, or (may be full) off quayside. If you arrive before 1700 a you will be met by the harbour hostess who can arrange for key for showers which otherwise close at 1800! (Opens 0800, 1000 Sat, 1100 Sun). Overnight Kr80 inc. electricity (grey boxes with hanging keys) and water. Shower NOK30pp, Laundry NOK70. Diesel from oiler moored by (card-operated) diesel pumps, NOK5.58/l inc 24% tax. Large modern and busy city. Supermarket nearby. Banks. Good shops. English papers in SAS hotel.
Old city burnt down by Germans in 1940 and rebuilt 1946, but with many very modern buildings. Splendid view of harbour from 13th floor of SAS hotel, open evenings. Fine barrel-vaulted church with separate bell tower. 24/6/01

Narvik Vassvik - Excellent marina with guest pontoon beside clubhouse, but shallow at inside end so space for only one yacht of 1.5m draft. Surrounded by magnificent mountains up to 1575m.Water. Electricity. Restaurant rarely open 2001. Good depth on main pontoons but key needed to get back. 50Kr per night. Diesel pontoon, 3.44 Kr/litre. Club restaurant open 11 - 15 and 18 - 20. Showers 10Kr. Supermarket 9-20 5 minutes and shopping mall 10 minutes. Banks. Specialist shops. Railway to Sweden (change Boden for Stockholm). Cable car facitiates good scramble to TV tower with fantastic view. Highly recommended. Airport has flights to Bodo. 1/8/00 and 20/6/01

Ankenes (Narvik) - Large residential marina at 68N25.5, 17E21.5 with facility for over-wintering afloat, and 10-ton boat hoist for scrubbing, etc. Electricity. Haul-out and return, NOK400. NOK50 per night. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Diesel pontoon. Washing m/c, dryer, shower in club room by arrangement. Local supermarket but main shops at Narvik, 6km. Ideal for over-wintering afloat. Walk up hill a bit to see midnight sun. 1/8/00 and 20/6/01

Lödigen, Lofoten Is. 68N24.7, 16E0.25
Large marina with visitors pontoon off root of breakwater, NOK40 per night including electricity, water. Showers NOK10. Supermarkets open 10-18 (Mon/Sat) and PO open 09-15 overlooking main harbour. Bank. Chandery/hardware store by marina. 31/7/00 updated 23/6/01

Svolvær, Lofoten Is. 68N13.95, 14E34.04
Guest berths on pontoon alongside main town square, enter by main shipping entrance (South). Ticket NOK65 per 24hr from machine. Elecrticity. Water. Supermarkets, restaurants (posh one over bridge), bicycle and car hire, chandlery (to S), PO, Bank, fine church. 24/6/01

Kabelvåg, Lofoten Is. 68N12.6, 14E24.8
After the bustle of Solvaer, with its busy marina, hundreds of tourists, cars, Kabelvag was an oasis of peace. Pontoon (6m) in centre of inlet alongside Lofoten Rorbuferie restaurant in town square. Overnight charge NOK80 without electricity or facilities but no collected. Supermarket, PO, Bank. 25/6/01

Henningsvær, Lofoten Is. 68N9.22 14E12.23
(Ending "vær" means fishing area). Choice of pontoon alongside Fiskekrogen hotel (W side), central to shops, at NOK60 (NOK120 >35ft) plus NOK40 electricity, shower NOK50pp inc towel, or public quay at S end off causeway at NOK65 from ticket machine, probably inc. electricity. Attractive town on island now connected to mainland by two long bridges (180 and 257m long) and causeways. 26/6/01

Risvær, Lofoten Is. 68N16.29, 15E17.43 - jetties between the two islands privately owned and shallow at LW, but excellent now disused wooden quay on north end of the western isle (Heimerøya). Rorbus (former huts of rowing fishermen) being restored as holiday homes. 30/7/00.

Digermulen 68N18.86, 4E59.17 - (handy before or after visiting Troll Fjord) anchorage in bay but a private jetty at above position in 4m belonging to Christian Berg (who lives nearby) might be used with permission. We were made very welcome and used shower in building beside slip, and hose. Supermarket 100m open 1000-1700 (1400 Sat). 29/7/00.

Sortland 68N41.69, 15R25.14 - visitors dock with nice vertically boarded faces at above position near town centre. Pontoon shown on tourist brochure does not exist. No facilities but these are planned. There are marinas about one mile north and south.
Excellent range of shops in this busy town. Large church (open). 28/7/00

Risöhamn 69N58.44, 16E38.74 - pontoon intended for small boats (short fingers) but in plenty of water. Electricity at root. Also wooden jetty that might be free. Excellent supermarket at 50m with marine diesel pump (NOK5.7/L) open 0900-1630 (1400 Sat). PO in town to S. 27/7/00.

Finnesrenna - well sheltered marina just north of west side of bridge. Seen, looks good, not explored. There is also a small private marina on the east side. 26/7/00

Gibostadt 69N21.25, 18E4.84 - unsheltered pontoon (4m). Good supermarket close by open 0930- 1630 (Mon-Fri) 0900-1300 (Sat). Restaurant open to 0000. No other facilities. Better to stop at Finnesrenna (new marina) close to NW side of bridge. 26/7/00

Tromsø 69N38.94, 18E57.75 - Norway's third largest city. Guest pontoon with fingers off Rica Ishavshotell; 60Kr/night inc. electricity and water. Also pontoon with alongside berthing on west side to NW, same charge. Excellent showers (NOK20) and washing machine (30Kr/token for wash or dry) in base of hotel's waterside tower, deposit NOK50 for "key". Excellent shops with supermarket open late. Bookshop has charts and tidetables. Excellent Polar Museum and Polaria (with bearded seals in large tank). The Småbåthaven just north of the bridge on mainland welcomes visitors, makes no charge and has diesel but is a 30-min walk over bridge into town. 23/7/00

Hamneneset (Nord-Lenangen) - large rectangular hr. with new (not shown in photo in 1999 DNL) pontoon with 29 finger berths at N end. Electricity at root. No water or other faclities. Supermarket open 09-16 (Mon/Thu), 09-17 (Fri), 09-14 (Sat). Prawn factory: prawns trawled at great depths e.g. 273m. 23/7/00

Loppar (Merværet) 70N20.66, 21E21.77 - small well-sheltered hr. with two jetties and some moorings; local told us end of old wooden jetty (Rutebåtanløp) would not be used. No facilities other than PO. Just south of tree-line. Lovely alpine walks. 22/7/00

Hasvik 70N28.82, 22E9.79 - well sheltered guest harbour with plenty of finger berths and some alongside berthing. Electricity. Welcomed by harbourmaster John. No charge. But weather very rough in winter, a new outer breakwater having been destroyed in a storm. Shop and PO. Church. When inhabitants were ordered to leave by Germans in October 1944 and village entirely burnt, over 500 hid in caves as at Kvithellardalen, 7km up W coast. 502 were rescued by four RN destroyers in February 1945 and taken to safety in Scotland. 22/7/00

Kaarhamn at 70N32.77, 23E9.42 - a delightful and very well sheltered mini-fjord with pontoon. Although the pontoon is labelled Fortøyning ved-og langing på flytebrygge er forbudt" we were made most welcome to use it. The fjord is too deep and streep sided for anchoring. Fish factory for drying and salting cod, huge outdoor cages for drying (4 months!) cod. Shop and PO with limited weekday opening. School has 4 pupils and 2 teachers. Fast ferry to Hammerfest. 21/7/00

Hammerfest Were told we could berth along west side of excellent wooden jetty with "Forbudt" notice and that the other BMR boats had been there a few days before. No water or electricity but no charge. This is "World's most northerly town". Burnt down by the Germans in 1944 it has been entirely rebuilt, although not very attractively. Excellent shops, banks, PO, chandlery, etc. Shower in hotel NOK30, NOK40 with towel. views from hill behind town. 21/7/00

Havøysund Well sheltered finger berths near town centre. Supermarkets, banks, PO, chandlery, etc. Bunker station at West end of entrance on N side, but not tried. 20/7/00

Måsöy (Ostervågen) at 71N0.33, 24E0.95 - Guest pontoon with fingers. No charge. Electricity. PO and shop with limited opening hours. Attractive wooden church, 1865 rebuilt 1953. No GSM signal. 19/7/00

Honningsvåg at 70N58.77, 25E58.5 - Guest pontoon with fingers. Charge not known. Electricity. Self-service diesel pump requires Esso card but diesel (also water) available from Esso (Statoil) bunker station on west side of Haven (NOK3.83/L inc tax) through small hose. PO, banks, supermarkets (one to 2300), optician, book shop, hotel. Recommended. 18/7/00

Gamvik at 71N3.57, 28E15.67 - Tiny but quiet fishing port in small town of mainly weekend houses. Quay. Shoals to north. PO, supermarket, café. Church rebuilt 1957 with unusual black spire (conspic). 17/7/00

Berlevag (Breakwater at 70N51.60, 29E6.09). - Small and busy fishing port with no facilities for visitors. High quays so must berth alongside fishing vessel. Spar supermarket, bank, chandlery, garage. Attractive church (locked). Surrounded by mountains and built on slate. Not recommended. 17/7/00

Båtsfjord at 70N37.9, 29E43.1 - Guest fingers off pontoon with 3m at LW. Charge not known. Electricity, water. Supermarket "Joker" at 100m. PO. Banks. Good shops. Chandlery. Recommended. 16/7/00

Vardö at 70N22.59, 31E6.70 - Good shelter except strong N wind. Three conspic OTH golf-ball radars S of entrance. Pontoon moorings @ NOK30/night, electricity. Water available free from most fish factory quays, e.g. that nearest pontoons. Diesel on W sise, Shell sign, NOK4.4/L. Hotel near fort good set menu NOK110. Showers in hotel, NOK20 + NOK10 towel. Washing machine and drier in hotel, NOK49.5 per load. PO. Banks. Fort (Vardohus Festning) is world's most northerly and Norway's oldest operational fort. Excellent fish exported worldwide, e.g. smoked halibut (better than smoked salmon!) NOK110 for 2lb frozen. Road tunnel to mainland. Recommended. 16/7/00
