About the CA
What is The Cruising Association?
The Cruising Association is Britain's leading organisation for cruising sailors. With more than 4000 members across the globe, we provide services, information, help and advice worldwide. Founded in 1908 to meet the needs of cruising sailors, the CA has been a home to many of the great names in sailing. It publishes a almanac which covers the whole of the British Isles and Atlantic seaboard of Europe and has local representatives all over the world. Eleven UK Sections as well as the Biscay, Baltic, European Inland Waterways, Mediterranean and Blue Water Sections provide specialised knowledge and events wherever our members cruise. Recently we also launched a Northern France and Channel Islands section.
The CA is a limited company run by a Council and a number of committees and groups and has a Secretariat that runs the business of the Association. Our Patron is Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. There are various committees which organise everything from the Crewing Service to the Cruising Guides and many of their Minutes and Reports are here. Archive
The Cruising Association was founded in 1908. Here is the story of its foundation. There are extensive records and artefacts from the entire history of the Association held in our information centre. Some items can be viewed online, such as our Articles and Regulations, a record of Past Presidents and others, and the past winners of our Challenge Trophies.
CA House
Situated next to the marina in Limehouse Basin, London, the CA's purpose-built headquarters, known as CA House, provides conference facilities, restaurant, bar and cabins for members as well as its world-class library. It's also the venue for the CA House Lectures and RYA courses. From here, the day-to-day running of the Association is conducted, and we have a professional Secretariat based in the building.
The Website
Cruising sailors are mobile and much of the day-to-day activity of the Association is based around the web, which is run by volunteers using public source software and provides the means for all members to update it. The members area, MyCA, provides forums and much additional navigation and cruising information. If you require help on using the site, please follow the link, or see the sitemap.
